Privacy Policy

Prayer Explorer is a free Catholic prayer companion app. We built it to be private by default. This policy explains what the app does, what it does not do, and how the small amount of information it touches is handled.
The short version
Prayer Explorer has no accounts, no logins, no analytics, and no advertising, and we run no servers of our own. Your favorites, notes, playlists, and preferences stay on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, they also back up through your own private Apple iCloud account so they can sync to your other devices. The only time anything leaves your device for us is an optional supporter donation, which is handled by Apple and our purchase provider, RevenueCat. We never see your name, email, or payment details.
What the app stores on your device
The following information is saved locally in iOS storage (AsyncStorage) on your device (and, if you use iCloud, backed up to your own iCloud account as described below):
- App preferences (Bible translation, dark mode, text size, voice).
- Favorited prayers and Bible verses.
- Personal notes you write on Bible verses.
- Bible reading progress and any reading plan you enroll in.
- Praylists (your custom prayer playlists).
What the app sends to other services
- Apple's text-to-speech engine. When you tap Listen, the prayer or Bible text you are reading is read aloud by your device's built-in iOS speech synthesizer. No audio is sent to a server.
- Apple's on-device speech recognition. Pray Along listens to your microphone to follow your prayer. Speech recognition runs on your device. We never record or upload audio.
- Apple iCloud (only if you are signed in). Your favorites, notes, reading progress, playlists, and reminders back up through Apple's iCloud key-value storage, tied to your own Apple ID, so they sync to your other devices. This data lives in your private iCloud account. We have no servers and never receive or see it.
- RevenueCat (only if you make a purchase). If you make an optional Proud to Pray donation, our purchase provider RevenueCat receives an anonymous purchase identifier so your supporter status can be restored on your devices. It is not linked to your name or email and is not used for advertising.
- External links. Tapping "Open Official Readings" or a similar link opens your browser to a third-party site (for example, USCCB.org). Those sites have their own privacy policies.
In-app purchases
The app offers an optional "Proud to Pray" supporter donation. Everything in the app is free and nothing is gated behind it. Payment is processed entirely by Apple, and the purchase is managed through our provider RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous identifier so your supporter status can be restored across your devices. We receive no payment information, no email address, and no name.
Analytics, tracking, advertising
None. The app contains no analytics SDKs, no tracking, and no advertising. We do not use third-party scripts to profile users.
Children
Prayer Explorer is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. The app has no accounts and asks for nothing about you, so there is nothing for us to delete or correct.
Changes to this policy
If we change the app in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and explain the change inside the app before any new behavior takes effect.
